The Grey Cottage is close to the centre of Disley village in a conservation area on Jackson’s Edge. Designated a Grade II listed building with English Heritage, and built of local gritstone, the oldest part dates back to around 1680, with a further addition about a hundred years later.

Former owners of The Grey Cottage include the novelist and playwright, Allan Monkhouse, who corresponded with other famous authors of the day, including George Bernard Shaw and J B Priestley.
